Cooler Temperatures on the Way

It was a hot one out there today, as temperatures soared into the mid-90s around the area. High dew points left the air feeling quite muggy with heat indices over 100°. This moisture, along with strong upper-level winds and available instability allow for the possibility of severe weather this evening. Our area was placed under the “Slight Risk” category by the Storm Prediction Center this morning and is under a Tornado Watch until 7PM CDT. If the right convective conditions persist, strong storms have the possibility of forming, bringing threats of large hail as well as damaging winds. Stay updated with the WKU Storm Team on Facebook and Twitter as the evening progresses.

A nice cool down is on the way as a cold front swings through the area overnight, leaving us with much more comfortable temperatures and drier conditions. A deep trough in the atmosphere will bring unseasonably cooler temperatures during the upcoming workweek. With mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s and low 80s, the next few days look to be perfect for outdoor activities! Our next opportunity for showers and storms will be during the upcoming weekend. So while no one likes Mondays, the beautiful weather will give everyone something to smile about. J

Forecast:

Tonight: Strong to severe storms possible before midnight. Skies will be gradually clearing with a low of 66°.

Monday: A beautiful day, with mostly sunny skies and a high around 80°. Winds from the northwest at 5-10 mph.

Monday Night: Partly Cloudy skies with a low of 67°. Winds will become calm as the night progresses.

Thanks for reading and have a great night!
