More Rain on the Way

Warm air advection from the south allowed temperatures to reach 46° today, which is right around average for this time of year. Temperatures in the 40s will continue for the day tomorrow, but rain is unofortunatley in our forecast. While areas farther north, such as Indiana and Illinois, are expecting wintry weather and icy conditions, rain will be the predominant precipitation type for the day tomorrow here in Kentucky. A shortwave, or a disturbance in the atmosphere, will allow for a rainy Monday as widespread precipitation is expected. Be sure to pack your umbrella, especially for the morning and lunchtime commutes.

WPC Surface Map, Valid 6 AM Monday

The heaviest rainfall will be before noon, with the majority of precipitation moving out of the area by the afternoon. A high pressure center building in the upper Great Plains will cause cold air advection to seep into the area Monday afternoon, causing tomorrow night's lows to fall below freezing. There is a slight chance of a wintry mix early tomorrow evening/night, as temperatures continue to fall and some moisture sticks around. We will keep you updated, but the greatest chance for precipitation remains in the morning; showers later on in the day will be fairly isolated. Between 6PM tonight through 6PM Monday, 0.50 - 1 inch of rain is expected around south central Kentucky (see map below).
