Rain Chances Return

According to the National Weather Service, today’s high temperature was 84°, a few degrees cooler than predicted. This discrepancy is most likely linked to the increase in cloud cover, which would have kept temperatures from reaching the upper 80s. These clouds will stick around for the remainder of the weekend as storm chances return on Sunday.

A slow-moving low pressure system will be our focus for the next day or so. As this system starts to push east into our region, our chance for precipitation will increase. A low-level jet, or strong winds relatively low in the atmosphere, will allow heavy bands of rain to fall over southern Kentucky due to an abundance of moisture. This rain will continue throughout Sunday evening and into the start of the workweek. The main threat of this system will be pockets of heavy rain, but a few storms with gusty winds are possible. Cloud cover will keep temperatures in the mid 80s during the day on Sunday and low 70s overnight.

48-Hour Precipitation Total

Forecast:

Tonight: Slight chance of a scattered shower this evening. Mostly cloudy skies with a low of 71°. Winds from the south around 5 mph.

Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rain possible. High around 85°.

Sunday Night: Showers and storms likely overnight, heavy rain possible. Low of 70°. Winds from the south at 5-8 mph.
