Precipitable water (PWAT) values at 8 PM tomorrow show the amount of available water content in the atmosphere |
Does it feel warmer now than it did around noon? You're not imagining things. The temperature in Bowling Green at 8:15 PM was 43°, which was the day's high temperature at that point. The temperature has actually been climbing slowly but surely throughout the day. We started today with a reading of 38° at midnight. Warmer air creeping into the region overrode the nightly cooling process, and the mercury has been rising since. Pesky clouds and light showers were once again the dominant conditions today, and it appears this will continue to be the main theme through the next couple of days. The system responsible for this is also the cause of our gradual warming trend.
Right now, a warm front is oriented from west to east along the I-40 corridor to our south and southwest. The front hasn't reached us just yet, but it has been pushing warmer air our way for the past 24 hours. This front is advancing north as its parent low pressure system over Oklahoma rides to the northeast. As a result, we should see a frontal passage sometime tomorrow. Temperatures will continue to rise until about sunset on Friday. By then, the front will be beyond us and nighttime cooling will take over.
The flip side of this is that the warm front is drawing up a substantial amount of moisture from the Gulf and moving it northward. We've already experienced light showers and clouds as a consequence, but look for a more steady and moderate rain throughout tomorrow and tomorrow night. The low should track just to our north, and once it's beyond us, a cold front will mark the end of the rain, but the return of cooler temperatures. Normal highs for Bowling Green historically would be around 50°, but we will likely climb into the 60s tomorrow. Saturday morning's low should be above average as well, but this will change by Sunday. An inch of rain or more is possible with this event, so areal flood advisories may be necessary in some locations.
Tonight: A low near 43° with a 20% chance of rain. Cloudy. Light southeast winds.
Friday: 100% chance of rain with a south wind increasing to 5-10 mph. High of 62°.
Friday night: 100% chance of rain with a low around 55°. Winds out of the southwest at 10-15 mph.
Thanks for reading!
