A Couple More Wet/Stormy Days

We certainly could use the rain here in south-central Kentucky, because it’s been a while since we’ve had a good soaker. With the recent wave of 80-degree temperatures came a series of dry days. I’ve noticed some folks have been asking for some rain to aid their brown lawns. Thankfully we’re not in any sort of drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, but the rain we received today was useful.

The showers and thunderstorms in our area this evening are already starting to die off, and they should eventually dissipate by tonight. A few showers may remain here and there, but otherwise we should be dry with mostly cloudy skies and lows around 67°. The rain isn’t going to leave the easily though. Tomorrow will present yet another chance for showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be breezy out of the southwest at 10-15 mph, with higher gusts. Once again, it will feel sticky outside due to the added humidity. We had a reprieve from the 80s today but tomorrow’s high will be near 83°.

NAM simulated reflectivity indicates a line of showers and storms may move through the region Sunday evening

During the early afternoon, a few isolated showers and thundershowers may develop, but the best chance for rain will be with a line of storms due to develop west of here and move in during the late afternoon and evening hours. Not all models support the idea of this line coming together, but I’m keeping a 60% chance of storms for Sunday. The strongest cells may have some gusty winds and heavy rain, but nothing severe is expected. Residual showers and thundershowers may continue into Sunday night. Lows will be in the upper-60s.

After that, only Monday stands in the way of a very pleasant week. Similarly, highs will be in the lower-80s with a humid feel. A cold front should pass through south-central Kentucky that afternoon or evening, bringing storms with it. A couple may be strong but severe activity is not anticipated. Once the front is through, a cooler and drier air mass will filter in. Tuesday will feel much better with seasonable temperatures returning and partly cloudy skies. These conditions should prevail through the rest of the week.
