Rain Chances Increase

Today’s weather was very similar to the past couple of days with warm temperatures and isolated showers and storms later in the day. We have had above average temperatures the past four days. Today, Bowling Green reached a high of 93° today, which is 6° warmer than our normal high temperature of 87°.

The next couple of days will be much of the same with high temperatures in the low 90s and a chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily in the afternoon and evening hours.  Due to the heat and humidity that is continuing to advect into our region from the Gulf of Mexico, popup showers and thunderstorms will be possible every day. However, rain chances will also increase later this week as Tropical Storm Bill makes its way into the Ohio Valley region.

The map above is a forecasted estimation of possible rain totals over the next three days.  As shown on that map, a majority of the rain from Bill is expected to go to our north and west.  We are expecting lighter, scattered rain in our area.  However, the map below is Bill’s forecasted track, which depicts Bill reaching the Ohio Valley region sometime Friday night.  If that track changes, so will the location of the heaviest rain.

As shown below, there is a slight chance severe storms north of Bowling Green both tomorrow and Thursday.  However, as aforementioned, we are not expecting much of an impact from Bill in south central Kentucky at this time.  By the time Bill gets here, it will have likely died down quite a bit, and what is left of it is projected to go to our northwest.  So, while rain chances will increase due to Bill, showers and storms will still be scattered and although an isolated strong or severe storm is possible, severe weather is not likely in our area.
