Well, it happened. The Bowling Green Municipal Airport
recorded a high of 92° yesterday, making June 11 the hottest day of 2015. Had
the airport been impacted by some showers, the high might have ended up a
little cooler. Instead, a few showers and storms popped up in northern Warren
County and Edmonson County, which ended up avoiding parts of Bowling Green. The
most persistent showers trailed over Brownsville and areas near Mammoth Cave.
Aside from a few other isolated cells, the rest of us stayed dry.
In comparison, today won’t be much different, but highs
should finally stay out of the 90s in most locations. This pattern of
above-average temperatures won’t be changing until the dominant high to our
southwest either breaks down or moves away (which will happen next week). For
now, winds will continue to blow from the southwest, but Bowling Green’s high
should be 89°. However, this may be cancelled out by higher humidity than the
past few days. Dewpoints will reach for the 70° mark, going from the “humid” to
“muggy” category. So while the actual temperature may be less hot than
yesterday, the moisture will compensate for that by putting heat indices in the
low-90s. Not very comfortable weather out there. I’d suggest keeping outdoor
activities to a minimum until around dinnertime.

Heat indices will be between 90-95° this afternoon |
Like yesterday, there is also the possibility of some
isolated showers and storms this afternoon. These cells should be relatively
short-lived as they pulse up and down, and anything that does develop should
remain spotty. By tonight, any rain will have shriveled up, with skies
remaining partly cloudy. Lows will continue to be in the lower-70s. The slight
cooldown will progress into tomorrow. Highs will still be warm but at an
improved 87°. While humid, it shouldn’t be as oppressive as today. Once again,
there will be the chance for some scattered thundershowers across the area
during the afternoon. This is pretty much going to be the case for the next few
days.
Today: High of 89° with southwest winds at 5-15
mph. Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of some isolated showers and storms. Very
humid.
Tonight: Lows near 71° with partly cloudy skies.
Southwest winds at 5 mph.
Saturday: A 30% chance of scattered
thundershowers with partly cloudy skies. Highs around 87°.
