Wet Start to July

Some isolated showers and storms moved through this afternoon.  However, it has been a relatively nice day for most of the area with a mix of sun and clouds and high temperatures in the low to mid 80s.  I hope you got out and enjoyed the weather today, because the rest of this week will be a bit wet as the low pressure system works its way in from the west as show below.

Forecasted surface conditions valid at 7:00PM CDT on Wednesday, July 1st.
It looks as if most of us are in the clear for tonight, but an isolated shower or storm cannot be completely ruled out with so much activity to our north and northeast.  So, parts of south central Kentucky may still see some rain overnight.

Tomorrow will start dry, but showers and storms are expected to move into our region early in the afternoon.  That wave of showers and storms will move out as we head through the evening before another round of showers and storms hits overnight and continues into Thursday morning.  Scattered showers and storms will then continue throughout the day on Thursday.

Forecasted rain totals from 7:00PM CDT on Tuesday, June 30th through 7:00PM CDT on Thursday, July 2nd.
No widespread severe weather is expected with these showers and storms.  However, a severe thunderstorm or flash flood warning will be possible.  Right now, we are under a marginal risk for severe weather both tomorrow and Thursday.  Flooding may become as issue because, as shown above, we are expected to get anywhere from 1.5 to 3 inches of rain over the next two days.  Heavy rainfall will likely be the greatest threat with these storms.

Looking ahead to the holiday weekend, there is a chance of showers and storms all the way through the start of next week.  Scattered showers and storms are likely Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  So, if you had intended on spending time outdoors this weekend, it may be a good idea to have a backup plan in case of rain.  We will have a more detailed look at your 4th of July forecast later in the week.

Thanks for reading, and have a great night!
