There was no shortage of rain in the area yesterday. After
getting soaked in the pre-dawn hours by a round of storms, more developed in
the afternoon and tracked over the same locations for a period of hours. A
Flash Flood Watch was already in place, which turned out to verify. Two Flash
Flood Warnings were issued, covering almost all of south-central Kentucky. There
were even a couple severe storm warnings thrown in there as well. At the end of
the rain last night, many locations had picked up multiple inches of rain since
midnight. Barren County came out on top, with the mesonet there recording 4.33″
of rain.
We had to deal with more rain today, with a few more Flash
Flood Warnings issued. Some of these will be in effect until 9:15 tonight. Make
sure you avoid flooded roadways and underpasses. Most flood-prone places are
likely full of water considering the back-to-back days of heavy rain we've
experienced, so steer clear of commonly flooded areas.
Radar-estimated rainfall since Wednesday morning |
Mostly cloudy and humid conditions will continue tonight
with a low of 68°. Some thundershowers will probably be sticking around, but
not in the numbers we saw during the daylight hours. Today’s activity was
mainly be instigated by a stationary front along the state line. Tonight, this
front will slowly sink more to the south, taking the showers with it. What
remains to be seen is how far south this front will go. I’m optimistic in the
recent model’s ideas of taking the front well into Tennessee for tomorrow. This
may still mean some isolated to scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon of
Independence Day, but activity will likely be modified by daytime temperatures.
Things will be calming down towards dusk and through the night.
While some of us will have to dodge some showers and
thunderstorms for the holiday, we’re not facing a wash-out by any means. Other
than feeling humid, temperatures will be a nice 83° with a west wind at 5 mph.
Be sure to enjoy tomorrow safely and responsibly.
Tonight: Low of 68° with mostly cloudy skies and
a west wind at 5 mph. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue.
Saturday: High near 83° with a 40% chance of
scattered thundershowers. Mostly Cloudy.
Saturday night: A few showers with lows near
66°. Perhaps a rumble of thunder or two.
Happy Fourth!
