Strong Storms Possible Monday

Good evening, Bowling Green! I hope everyone was able to enjoy this past weekend, with sunny skies and temperatures soaring into the 90s today! According to the National Weather Service, Bowling Green hit a high of 91° this afternoon. The weather the past few days has been perfect for taking a dip in the pool.

However, storm chances are on the way, with the possibility of severe weather on Monday. Below is the convective outlook from the Storm Prediction Center; the entire state of Kentucky is under a "Slight Risk" for severe weather. This means storms may be capable of producing damaging winds and hail.

These storms will be firing along the cold frontal boundary that will be passing through the area later tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Some scattered storms are possible as early as tomorrow morning, popping up ahead of the front. Currently we are in what's known as the "warm sector" of the frontal system, allowing for southerly winds to bring warm and moist air into the region. Having this in place ahead of the cold front will allow enough instability and moisture to be in place for strong to severe storms to form. Temperatures tomorrow will drop with the passage of the cold front, but not before highs hit the upper-80s.

As the front moves eastward, so will the rain - storm chances will be gradually diminishing overnight Monday as temperatures drop into the mid-60s. Tuesday looks to be mainly dry with skies clearing and temperatures jumping back up into the mid, to possibly the upper, 80s. Therefore, the cold front will not be so "cold" as much as a forcing mechanism for storms tomorrow.

With the possibility for severe weather tomorrow, be sure to stay updated with the WKU Storm Team on Twitter!
